EdSIG Convenor - Charmaine Lloyd
Dr Charmaine Lloyd is a Senior lecturer at RMIT University and has held teaching posts at Swinburne University (FT), Monash University (casual) and Federation University (casual). Prior to that, she taught at the School of Life Sciences at Ngee Ann Polytechnic, Singapore & YRG Center for HIV/AIDs Research in India. Charmaine won 3 school teaching awards and 2 National service Excellent Service (EXSA Gold) awards at Singapore. She also received this year's ASM EC Excellence in Teaching Award. She has publications in scenario-based teaching, blogging and podcasting in microbiology. When she is not teaching, Charmaine is interested in natural drug research and antibiotic resistance.

Immediate Past EdSIG Convenor 2021-2023 - Thiru Vanniasinkam
Associate Professor Thiru Vanniasinkam is a Course Director / Associate Professor in Immunology at Charles Sturt University and is located in Wagga Wagga. Thiru’s current research involves vaccine development and development of diagnostic techniques for veterinary pathogens such as equine adenovirus, Campylobacter jejuni and Rhodococcus equi.

Megan Lloyd - Convenor 2019-2021
Dr Megan Lloyd is an Adjunct Lecturer at the University of Western Australia. Megan has taught undergraduate microbiology and immunology. Megan’s research interests are virological in nature and she has recently been a member of the Verhasselt laboratory at Telethon Kids Institute investigating SARS-CoV-2 immunoglobulin in breast milk.

Karena Waller - Convenor 2017-2019
Professor Karena Waller is situated in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology, and Deputy Program Director of the Bachelor of Biomedicine at the University of Melbourne. Karena’s excellence and innovation in teaching and learning has been rewarded with numerous prizes, from both the University and the Australian Society for Microbiology.

Priscilla Johanesen - Convenor 2015 - 2017
Professor Priscilla Johanesen is Head of Teaching and Learning in the Department of Microbiology and Director of the Biomedical Discovery Institute Graduate Program at Monash University. She has a long involvement in supporting early career researchers, including playing a lead role in the development of a skills-based approach for the Monash doctoral training program.

Josie Lategan - Convenor 2014-2015
Dr M Josie Lategan lectured Microbiology at Macquarie University from 2009 to 2015 and she currently is an Academic Tutor at the University of the Sunshine Coast. Her research interests are in both the medical and environmental fields of microbiology.

Danilla Grando - Convenor 2012-2014
Associate Professor Danilla Grando specialises in creating online learning environments and designing learning exercises that help students understand the myriad of interactions that humans have with microbes and how our knowledge helps maintain a balanced human ecosystem. She spent the first half of her working life as a diagnostic scientist so aims to help students become industry ready

Cheryl Power - Convenor 2008 - 2012
Cheryl’s energy and enthusiasm for teaching is reflected in the strength of the Education SIG. She is an Honorary fellow at the University of Melbourne and was awarded an ASM Honorary Life Membership in 2017.

Chris Burke - Assisted Cheryl with Convening EDSIG
Dr Chris Burke played a very important role in assisting Cheryl Power with the running of the Education Special Interest Group between 2008 and 2012. He was pivotal in writing the Threshold learning outcomes for a Microbiology Major, published in Microbiology Australia in January 2016, and was awarded an ASM Honorary Life Membership in 2018.
